How do you go about improving the World’s favourite production cruising yacht? The answer is that you take the same essential elements and improve them.
So, the new Sun Odyssey 350 has a completely new state-of-the -art hull design with reverse bow that improves manoeuvrability, lightens the helm even further and increases the effective waterline length underway.
Increased beam has allowed the introduction of the remarkable and Jeanneau patented sloping side deck making access from the cockpit to the lifeline gates, or forward safer and much easier.
On deck forward a fully integrated bow-roller means that the anchor can be carried in place and ready to deploy while not being in the way of flying off the wind sails. Also introduced is a deep anchor well which means that an anchor-winch remote at the helm is a convenience that will work effectively.
Back in the cockpit there is a large cockpit locker lid into the large storage area on the port side of the standard 2-cabin layout, so it is now possible to put bulky items such as cockpit cushions directly into that space.
For those seeking to optimise performance there is now a flat deck furler option, which combined with the square-top mainsail choice provides exhilarating sailing that will embarrass many others twilight racing or taking part in those social regattas. Our demonstrator is available with either an in-mast furling mainsail, or conventional main with lazy-jacks and boom-bag.
When the breeze does die the 350 has a larger 29hp engine ensuring all the power that you could want in any sea or wind state.
Down below we have a very familiar layout, but with the option of doing without the chart table. Though note that there are no longer any door sills, and headroom throughout is 1.95m.
Another change of note is a significant increase in water capacity with an optional aft water tank. Bound to be a popular option as it allows the bow tank to remain empty unless required for extended stays onboard keeping weight out of the bow for improved performance and handling.
New options for this model include a larger battery capacity, cabin fans, Corian counter tops, solar and an electric halyard winch.
This our first demonstration model comes complete with:
