The most recent arrival to Australia is the Sun Odyssey 490, with all of the same elements of the SO440, the key difference on the face of it is the remarkable forward owners cabin. This cabin space really is a triumph, being more like what you might expect on a much bigger yacht, and with a book shelf, vanity unit, completely separate shower stall and an abundance of lockers.
Yes, the yacht is obviously bigger all around than the 440 and this provides designed space for washing machine/dryers, additional refrigeration, dish-washers and the like.
However, there is one key element of the 490 that is unlike the other new models, or any other Jeanneau Sun Odyssey of previous generations, and that is that the hull has been manufactured using an infusion process with balsa core above the water-line. The result of this is that it is the lightest yacht in class, with a lower centre of effort and therefore very high stability. In fact the index for the SO490 is a STIX of 44! If you are not aware of what STIX is see this link
As a result of the lightness yet stability the way it behaves whilst sailing, either inshore or offshore, is astounding. This is a yacht that will eat up those cruising miles with absolute ease and aplomb. It’s the kind of yacht that will simply bring a smile to your face every time it is sailed and offers the space and performance of most yachts closer to 55 feet in length!
Our demonstrator is now available and at an unrepeatable price, so don’t miss out, this is genuinely a once-off offer on a truly remarkable yacht. See the details here. To make an appointment to view it ring (02) 9979 9755 or email info@performanceboating.com.au
