Two new Sun Fast 3300’s have now arrived to Sydney and we can vouch for all of the hype about this astonishing design! It simply has to be experienced to be believe how these yachts sail! With the genius of this highly innovative Verdier hull design, and the experience and IRC optimisation from Daniel Andreau it is no wonder that the Sun Fast 3300 is as popular and competitive as it is.
Our recent test-sail in winds gusting just over 20 knots had us going upwind into a short chop on the open sea at the upper end of 6 knots, reaching at 9 to 10 knots and running with an A2 spinnaker at speeds up to 14 knots. And all with ease sailing three-up with no crew on the rail.
In the current RORC two-handed series in the UK the 3300 “Gentoo” is currently leading in a highly competitive fleet dominated by Sun Fast’s with 3200’s and 3600’s also featuring. It will be fascinating to see how they do in the upcoming Fastnet Race which takes place in a few weeks time, as there is a staggering fleet of 92, yes 92, 2-handed entries, of which there are about 15 Sun Fast’s!
