After the great success of the first serious offshore race for the new Sun Fast 3300 in the Fastnet Race the first example has now arrived to Australia and just been launched. This is the new “Kraken” for WA Jeanneau dealer Todd Giraudo, replacing his Sun Fast 3600 which he has raced successfully over the last 3 years, which replaced his previous Sun Fast 3200.
Yacht design has developed dramatically in the last 11 years since the 3200 was introduced, and while the 3200 is still highly successful, both as a fully-crewed and short-handed IRC racing yacht, the new SF3300 takes that a step further with the combined expertise of two highly talented yacht designers. Verdier is at the forefront of modern hull design and was responsible for the very famous super maxi “Commanche” as well as IMOCA 60 “Hugo Boss 4”, while Andrews designed the 3200 and 3600 and is an expert on optimising for IRC.
The result is a yacht that is a next generation design that can be tailored to each owners use depending on whether they are racing inshore, offshore, short-handed or fully crewed, while being both fast and highly competitive.
