Tack the Plotter!

The first sail on “Nightingail”, the second of the ‘European yacht of the Year’ Sun Odyssey 409’s to be delivered in Australia, saw the owner and Lee deliver the yacht to Pittwater on a fine autumn day with 8 to 12 knots of wind. The upwind leg down Pittwater was an excellent test for the sail configuration on this particular example with a self-tacking headsail and in-mast furling mainsail. Said Lee “the performance of the yacht sailing hard on the wind in 14 knots true was very pleasing with 6.4 knots of boat speed on the GPS, though I did feel rather redundant. My job was to tack the cockpit table mounted plotter for the owner to view from the weather helm!”. Ease of use is a key element of the new Sun Odyssey 409.
