SUN ODYSSEY 509 – FIRST SOLD:

The First Sun Odyssey 509 has now been sold and will be on display at the Sydney Show starting on the 2nd of August. With 50 already sold Worldwide since its launch atCannes last September this yacht hits all of the right elements and designer Philippe Briand has weaved his magic yet again with a yacht that is extremely elegant on the water. With the current exchange rate these yachts are astonishingly well priced.

The yacht on order will feature Jeanneau’s 360 degree docking system allowing the owners to manoeuvre and berth the yacht with the touch of a joystick. The SO509 features a variety of layouts allowing it to meet a range of uses and the performance options include a below deck furler making this yacht ideal for cruising North and shifting to ‘performance’ mode for Hamilton Island Race Week. Last year the previous generation SO49i and 49DS came 1st and 2nd in their division at Race Week and on paper the SO509 is significantly quicker reaching and running while the same in any breeze on the wind.

As a passage-maker the SO509 is stiff, sea-kindly and very easily sailed short-handed with abundant storage and the optional generator is easily accessed for service and maintenance under the cockpit floor. There are many innovative features for making time on board a pleasure including a full function cockpit table and hinged double doors in the companionway for easy access from the cockpit to the interior. The standard interior features an innovative T-shaped galley allowing easy use for entertaining with the option of an additional fridge/wine cooler. Abundant storage throughout is a plus as is the large foredeck locker for those bulky items required for bluewater cruising.
