Royal Prince Alfred’s annual “Cure Cancer” fundraising event which took place this year on Saturday the 26th of February has become very much a tradition at the club and a very worthwhile cause that has raised a significant amount of funds for cancer research over the years.
On a beautiful summers day on Pittwater the racing took the form of varied legs for each of the 7 divisions with triangle & sausage style courses. The three one-design classes sailed on one course area and the other four classes theirs. On average two and a half hours of racing was had before crews came ashore for various fund-raising events and the prizegiving.
Division 1 was won by Ron Hayden’s Sun Fast 43 “Cloud Nine” from the Kerr 11.4 “Kerazy” and First 40 “Alibi”. In division 2 Lee Condell on the Sun Fast 3200 “Street Car” claimed a win by 28 seconds from the Match 38 “Good Form” with “Sirocco” the Elan 37 3rd. And in the non-spinnaker division Matthew Barlow’s 49DS “Saphira” in his first race on this yacht won from the Oceanis 423 “Ola”.
So a worthwhile day of fun sailing, a good result for Jeanneau owners, and over $12,000 raised for a good cause.
