Sail Port Stephens

It was wonderful to be back at Sail Port Stephens last month, the event having been cancelled last year, and we were blessed with spectacular weather, if a little light winded. With sixteen Jeanneau’s within the 130 yacht fleet we were well represented by 10 different models. This year the decision was made to have the Jeanneau entries sail within the divisions of like yachts and take the best performing results on the day through the 3-day Commodore’s Cup to award each days individual medals. Then a points system was used to calculate the overall series results and coveted Jeanneau Perpetual Trophy.

In Race 1 the Sun Fast 3200 “Chaos Theory” came out on top having picked a path in a dying breeze through the heads very well. The Sun Odyssey 349 “Pinta Bay” sailed a great race in their division to get 2nd in the Jeanneau results, while another Sun Fast 3200 “Hell’s Bells” got 3rd.

In Race 2 “Chaos Theory” did it again taking first with the other 3200 “Hell’s Bells” 2nd and “Pinta Bay” 3rd in light and tricky conditions.

The final Commodore’s Cup Race 3 was the windiest of the week and the Sun Odyssey 440’s revelled leading the division with “Ca Va” passing “Wings” on the return to take the win. The Sun Odyssey 39i “Slac-N-Off” won its division to take 3rd in the Jeanneau results.

One special mention for Pam Joy’s Sun Fast 32 “Tana” which won the final race of the Sail Port Stephens Trophy division 3. Well done!

Many thanks to “Ca Va” for hosting the yachts based at the D’Albora Marina for drinks and nibbles provided by PBS on the Tuesday evening.

And so the overall results for the Jeanneau division at the Commodore’s Cup relied on consistency and are as follows. A big congratulations to the Team on “Pinta Bay” who are now the proud recipients of the Jeanneau Perpetual Cup.

1st Overall    –    “Pinta Bay” –     Frank Milner        Sun Odyssey 349

2nd Overall    –    “Slac-N-Off” –     Martin Colebrook    Sun Odyssey 39i
