The new Jeanneau 64 flagship is a magnificent collaboration between the very highly regarded naval architect Philippe Briand and super-yacht interior designer Andrew Winch. Make no bones about it, this is a highly innovative yacht offering a level of customisation and true flexibility of use. There will be two guises, the standard luxury cruising yacht with a proper skippers cabin and sailing systems for ease of use unparalleled in this class of yacht, and a Sports version without the sun lounge aft of the cockpit and without the targa offering a sportier appeal, especially if combined with the optional performance sail plans and carbon mast. 120 engineers have been involved in developing this new design with a large number of possible combinations fabrics, woods, leathers and interior and exterior design, so truly a semi-custom yacht. Ease of handling is at the forefront of the design with captive winches, a large selection of sail plans, centralised sail handling and a large 180hp Volvo engine and twin thrusters for ease of docking.
A key element of the design is what Jeanneau call ‘deck life’, so a full 40% of the deck area is dedicated to the cockpit for lounging, relaxation and entertaining with elements such as a cockpit galley with grill and sink, transformable telescopic cockpit tables, and easy tender handling system, large sun-deck (on the standard version) and a targa arch to keep the cockpit clear and safe. The foredeck is also flush and uncluttered.
Down below there is an innovative forward owners cabin, or aft owners cabin with bridge deck, laundry facilities, a separate sound-proofed engine room, a true chart-table/office, large heads with separate showers and a high-end galley with large fridge capacity, and there are two choices of interior design and multiple layout options.
Between the previous generation Jeanneau 54DS and the current Jeanneau 53 and 57 the company has built a staggering 721 of these larger yachts, so a vast amount of experience has been gained which will be used to ensure that this new design is a reliable, trouble free, easy to handle yacht that sets a new benchmark for a semi-custom yacht in this class.
